Google to invest $3 bn in Indiana and Virginia in data center push

Alphabet unit Google announced it would invest $3 billion to set up a data center campus in Indiana and expand sites in Virginia.
Google Play StoreGoogle will spend $2 billion for the Indiana campus at Fort Wayne. Google will invest $1 billion to expand three existing data center campuses in Virginia. Google’s investment in Virginia will be reaching more than $4 billion.

On Friday, Google also announced a $75-million Google AI Opportunity Fund to train Americans on AI skills, Ruth Porat, President of Google said in a blog post.

A boom in artificial intelligence (AI) applications has increased the demand for cloud computing, prompting Big Tech firms to expand their data center capacity.

On Thursday, Amazon.com’s cloud computing arm AWS (Amazon Web Services) committed $11 billion toward new data centers in Indiana and creating 1,000 jobs.
