Alphabet, the parent of Google, plans to invest $3.3 billion in South Carolina to build two new data centers, CEO Sundar Pichai said.
The search engine giant will establish the two new data center campuses in Dorchester County and expand its existing data center campus in Berkeley County, the South Carolina governor’s office said in a statement.
Google, the third largest Cloud service provider, will invest $2 billion in Dorchester County facilities, located in the Pine Hill Business Campus in Ridgeville and Winding Woods Commerce Park in St. George, creating 200 operational jobs. In addition, Alphabet will invest $1.3 billion in Berkeley County.
Alphabet reported capital expenditure (Capex) of $13 billion in the June quarter of 2024. Alphabet is aiming to spend above $12 billion towards capital expenditure per quarter this year. Alphabet’s Capex is driven by investment in technical infrastructure, with the largest component for servers, followed by data centers.
In Q2, Alphabet announced its first data center and Cloud region in Malaysia, and expansion projects in Iowa, Virginia and Ohio.
Google’s quarterly revenues crossed the $10 billion mark for the first time. Google’s AI Infrastructure and Generative AI Solutions for Cloud customers have generated billions in revenues. More than two million developers are using Google’s AI Infrastructure and Generative AI Solutions.
Google rival Microsoft announced its partnership with BlackRock and Abu Dhabi-backed investment firm MGX to launch a more than $30 billion fund to invest in AI infrastructure to build data centers and energy projects.
