Eaton Unveils Breakthrough Digital Solutions to Drive Data Center Transformation

Eaton, a leading intelligent power management company, has unveiled an innovative portfolio of digital solutions aimed at propelling digital transformation within data centers.
Eaton's Brightlayer Data Centers suite
These cutting-edge solutions, integrated into Eaton’s Brightlayer Data Centers suite, are designed to elevate uptime, optimize performance, and bolster sustainability in data center operations.

The groundbreaking platform, a pioneer in the industry, consolidates asset management, IT and operational technology (OT) device monitoring, power quality metrics, and advanced electrical supervision within a single, native application.

According to Mike Jackson, Global Director of Product, Data Center and Distributed IT Software at Eaton, “Point solutions are no longer sufficient to provide data center operators the visibility they need into their increasingly complex ecosystem of IT and OT assets.”

He further emphasized, “The new solutions in our Brightlayer Data Centers suite leverage a single, native application to manage, monitor and control a wide range of infrastructure assets while providing seamless integration with other software and a simplified way to expand software capabilities as an operator’s needs grow.”

Data center operators are now exploring opportunities to leverage data for enhanced sustainability, driven by internal and external pressures to reduce carbon footprints. A substantial 40 percent of data center operators aim to utilize digitalization to reduce overall energy costs, and over a third see opportunities to minimize waste such as heat or materials, as revealed in a research report commissioned by Eaton and developed by S&P Global Market Intelligence titled “The intersection of digital transformation and the energy transition.”

Eaton’s Brightlayer Data Centers suite offers a unified application to manage, monitor, and control critical site power management assets, encompassing uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), power distribution units (PDUs), switchgear, generators, cooling equipment, battery storage, solar equipment, and more. The platform introduces three distinct solutions that can be used in isolation or in conjunction, depending on customer requirements:

Data Center Performance Management Software: Monitors assets, provides trends, alerts, and reports, managing power, space, connectivity, and cooling resources to maximize IT application uptime while minimizing capital and operating expenditures.

Electrical Power Monitoring System Software: Offers real-time and historical visibility into a data center’s electrical power system, facilitating rapid issue resolution and identification of root causes of unexpected issues. This aids in understanding a facility’s consumption of vital resources like water, air, gas, electricity, and steam, thereby reducing operating costs and achieving sustainability goals.

Distributed IT Performance Management Software: Effectively manages and controls network-connected assets such as PDUs and UPSs, irrespective of vendor or location. It proactively identifies and automates actions to prevent IT equipment downtime. Additionally, with built-in cybersecurity protection, users can execute remote firmware upgrades and configuration changes to safeguard critical data from potential cyber threats.

Eaton’s introduction of this innovative suite reaffirms its commitment to enhancing data center operations, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient digital future.
