AWS launches Device Farm and Amazon API Gateway

Amazon Web Services has launched AWS Device Farm to test apps and Amazon API Gateway to create, publish, maintain, monitor and secure APIs at any scale.

AWS has launched a new service, AWS Device Farm, to help mobile app developers quickly and securely test their apps on smartphones, tablets and other devices to improve the quality of their Android and Fire OS apps.

The new service allows developers to upload their apps and run tests simultaneously on commonly used devices.

AWS Device Farm submits a timely report to developers as the tests complete and requires no setup cost.

The company said developers can access to a fleet of devices including all the latest hardware, operating systems and platforms so they can instantly test their apps across a large selection of Android and Fire devices.

AWS Device Farm also makes it easy for developers to test real-world customer scenarios, fine-tuning test environments with a broad set of device configurations and focus on the issues by providing comprehensive, actionable reports as tests are completed.

Additionally, AWS has unveiled a new fully managed service, Amazon API Gateway, for AWS customers to create, publish, maintain, monitor and secure Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) at any scale.

Company officials said Amazon API Gateway handles all the tasks associated with accepting and processing billions of daily API calls including traffic management, authorization and access control, monitoring and API version management.

With Amazon API Gateway, customers have a pay-as-you-go service which helps in creating and maintaining APIs, authorizing access to them, verifying API calls, monitoring API performance, and ensuring back-end services can handle heavy API traffic.

Additionally, customers can use familiar AWS security tools such as AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) to verify and authenticate API requests to protect access to their back-end services.

According to AWS, Amazon API Gateway also monitors the usage and performance of back-end services.

Meanwhile, customers can build new back-end services without provisioning new server infrastructure as Amazon API Gateway integrates with AWS Lambda.
