Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s cloud computing division, will invest 10.1 billion reais ($1.8 billion) in Brazil through 2034 to expand its data center operations.
This investment will support the expansion, construction, connection, operation, and maintenance of data centers across Brazil.
AWS’s investment in Latin America builds on its previous commitment of 19.2 billion reais from 2011 to 2023. The expansion aims to bolster AWS’s cloud services and meet the growing demand for data center capacity in the region.
The Brazil data center market is forecast to receive investments of $4.72 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 7.16 percent during the forecast period.
In Brazil, leading data center hubs are Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre, Hortolandia, Ceara, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Parana.
The average occupancy rate of data centers across Brazil is more than 85 percent. In Sao Paulo, the majority of data centers have an occupancy rate of more than 90 percent.
AWS, Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Tencent Cloud, Google, and Huawei Technologies are some major cloud service providers in Brazil data center market. Huawei last year announced it will set up its third cloud availability zone in Brazil in the first quarter of 2024.
