Google Cloud to buy cloud storage vendor Elastifile

Google Cloud announced on Tuesday that it plans to buy cloud storage vendor Elastifile.

The Elastifile deal adds even more technology to Google Cloud’s offering. Google said Elastifile will be integrated with Google Cloud Filestore, allowing for broader computing and storage capabilities.

Google, the fastest growing Cloud company, did not reveal the price for the deal. Google Cloud is expected to close the deal later this year.

Google Cloud is behind cloud leaders Amazon and Microsoft. Google had 7.6 percent of the cloud market share at the end of 2018 as compared with 13.7 percent for Microsoft and 32 percent for Amazon, according to a report from Canalys.

Google in June announced plans to acquire data analytics company Looker for $2.6 billion.

Google has been looking to expand its cloud business under Thomas Kurian, who joined the team in November, replacing previous Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene.
