AWS accelerates revenue growth to 49% to $5.4 billion

Amazon’s Web Services business (AWS) accelerated revenue growth to nearly 49 percent to $5.4 billion in Q1 2018.

“This growth helps AWS to lead public cloud PaaS and IaaS competitors by a wide margin, despite facing more stringent competition from Microsoft Azure, which grew a reported 93 percent to $1.8 billion according to TBR estimates,” TBR senior analyst Meaghan McGrath said.

AWS reported that SageMaker has driven their active machine learning users to increase more than 250 percent in the last year to tens of thousands of customers. Amazon Aurora achieved 2.5x increase in customer addition, making the business the fastest growing service ever for AWS.

“These metrics reaffirm AWS’ effective competition with peers on their core competencies, like machine learning-focused competitors Google Cloud and Microsoft, and relational database stalwart Oracle, as all of these public cloud competitors vie for market share in a expanding market,” Meaghan McGrath said.
