Amazon Web Services announced the availability of Amazon Redshift and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) High Storage Instances in the AWS Singapore Region.
Amazon Redshift is a fully managed, petabyte-scale data warehouse service in the cloud.
Customers can launch Amazon Redshift cluster, starting with a few hundred gigabytes and scaling to a petabyte or more, for under US$1,000 per terabyte per year.
The service not only lowers the cost of data warehouse, but also makes it easy to analyze large amounts of data very quickly.
With Amazon Redshift, customers can dramatically increase query performance when analyzing virtually any size data set, using the same SQL-based business intelligence tools they use today.
Amazon Redshift uses a number of techniques, including columnar data storage, advanced compression, and high performance IO and network, to achieve significantly higher performance than traditional databases for data warehousing and analytics workloads.
The service is fully managed and can automate common tasks associated with provisioning, configuring, monitoring, backing up, scaling, and securing a data warehouse.
Amazon EC2 High Storage Instances provide very high storage density per instance and are ideal for applications that require high performance sequential read and write capabilities over very large data sets, such as data warehousing and Hadoop clusters.
With High Storage instances, customers can run demanding data-driven applications without any up-front capital investments while benefiting from the low cost and high elasticity of Amazon EC2.
Some of the customers using Amazon EC2 include Wego.com, a leading travel search site in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East; BookMyShow, a ticketing service for movies, sports, theatre and events; Zalora, a rapidly growing online fashion retailer in Asia.
