Amazon Web Services (AWS) Plans $15 bn Investment in Japan for Cloud Computing Expansion

Amazon Web Services (AWS) plans to invest 2.26 trillion yen (approximately $15.24 billion) in Japan by 2027 to bolster its cloud computing infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence (AI) services.
Amazon web servicesThe investment will primarily target the expansion of AWS facilities in key metropolitan areas, namely Tokyo and Osaka. The move is in response to the escalating customer demand for cloud computing services and aims to fortify AWS’s position as a leading provider in the field.

This substantial capital injection comes on the heels of a preceding investment of 1.51 trillion yen spanning the period from 2011 to 2022. During this time frame, AWS focused on building and enhancing its cloud capacity in Japan, solidifying its foothold in the market.

Japanese corporate entities, including Asahi Group, Marubeni, and Nomura Holdings, work with AWS.
