ZF Friedrichshafen AG, an automotive software technology provider, on Thursday opened its first technology centre in India at Hyderabad.

The global leader in driveline and chassis technology as well as active and passive safety technology plans to invest 15 million euro (over Rs 105 crore) in India over the next five years.

The India Technology Centre (ITC) will be dedicated to electronics, embedded software and mechanical engineering. It will support ZF’s global development teams while enabling the company to accelerate local product development supporting ZF automotive and non-automotive operations and customers in India.

The company intends to harness the skill set present in the country today to develop world class technology solutions for ZF across the globe, in addition to accelerating local product development, it said.

This is ZF’s 18th technology centre in the world and is spread over an area of 10,000 sq.ft. The facility will house 2,500 engineers by 2020.

Telangana’s Minister for Industries K.T. Rama Rao, who inaugurated the centre, announced that the government will set up mobility engineering clusters to support OEMs and suppliers. He urged ZF to partner with the government in this initiative.

ZF CEO Sedan Sommer said Hyderabad centre will play a key role in its India operations.

“At ZF, we are experiencing substantial growth in many regions, and this is especially true in India. In a dynamically changing and increasingly digital world, speed is of the essence and we are proud to have been able to complete the set-up in a short period of time,” he said recalling that ZF announced plans to build the ITC in September 2016.
