Wipro appoints TCS veteran Abid Ali as president and COO

IT services company Wipro has appointed TCS veteran Abid Ali Neemuchwala as the group president and chief operating officer.

The appointment will be effective April 1, 2015, said the Bangalore-based Wipro in a statement.

Abid will be responsible for Wipro businesses include global infrastructure services, business application services, business process services and advanced technology solutions.

He will take care business operations, the geographies comprising Continental Europe, Africa, and LATAM; Strategic Engagements, Advisor Relationships as well as the marketing function.

In Q3 fiscal 2014-15, Wipro generated 27.3 percent business from Global Infrastructure Services, 11.2 percent from Advanced Technologies & Solutions, 28.9 percent from Business Application Services, 9.5 percent from BPO, 7.1 percent from Product Engineering and 16 percent from ADM.

Global Media & Telecom contributed 13.8 percent to Wipro revenue, Finance Solutions 25.7 percent, Manufacturing & Hitech 18.3 percent, Healthcare, Life Sciences & Services 11.7 percent, Retail, Consumer Goods & Transportation 14.1 percent and Energy, Natural Resources & Utilities 16.4 percent.

Americas contributed 51.4 percent, Europe 27.6 percent, India & Middle East business 9.6 percent and APAC and Other Emerging Markets 11.4 percent revenue to Wipro.

At Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Abid was heading business process services. He worked with TCS for 23 years in several leadership roles. He lives in Dallas, Texas.

TCS Q3 revenue up 15%, profit up 5%

Tata Consultancy Services said industries such as telecom, hi tech and life sciences contributed to 15 percent revenue growth in Q3 fiscal 2014-15. Europe led the revenue growth, while North America also grew during the third quarter.

Global Consulting, Asset Leveraged Solutions, Infrastructure Services and Assurance Services led the revenue growth for TCS.
