Itron to expand centre of excellence, double workforce

Technology and services company Itron on Thursday announced plans to expand its Software Centre of Excellence in Bangalore, and double its workforce in the next couple of years.

“Our Centre of Excellence in India contributes greatly to Itron’s technology portfolio and is vital to bringing world-class solutions to the global marketplace. With India’s immense talent pool, we believe we can build a sustainable future with the latest innovations,” said Itron COO Tom Dietrich.

The Bengaluru centre will focus on software application development to propel smart grid and smart cities projects across the world.

Terming the centre “a display of our successful DevOps model of operations”, Itron Globla DevOps vice president Gred Richards said it has enabled efficient problem resolution with faster delivery of features.

“Our global know-how and local software capabilities have helped accelerate innovation for smart cities in the age of the Internet of Things,” he added.

Established in 2013, the centre currently employs 240 people. It aims to emerge as a leading development centre for innovative software and firmware solutions to enable cities and utilities better manage water and energy.

Itron provides solution which measure, manage and analyse water and energy. Its product portfolio includes electricity, gas, water and thermal energy measurement devices and control technology. IANS
