IT services company Infosys has hired Capgemini veteran Salil S Parekh as chief executive officer and managing director.
Interestingly, Capgemini did not consider its board member Salil Parekh when the Infosys rival appointed two chief operating officers (COOs) as part of the management transition.
Capgemini in a statement said that Salil Parekh has decided to leave the Group in the context of the recent managerial evolutions communicated in October.
Capgemini on October 11, 2017 appointed Thierry Delaporte and Aiman Ezzat as COOs. Capgemini said their primary role within the Office of the CEO will be of Group transformation for Thierry and Group performance for Aiman.
Capgemini earlier noted that Thierry Delaporte and Aiman Ezzat have qualities to support Chairman Paul Hermelin in implementing the Group’s priorities: reinvigorating offers to support enterprise customers in all aspects of their transformation, strengthening customer centricity and increasing competitiveness.
Paul Hermelin, chairman and CEO of Capgemini, in a statement today said Salil Parik contributed to the development of the Group in India and in the US.
Salil Parekh will be the second external CEO to be hired by Infosys. Vishal Sikka, who came to Infosys from SAP, had resigned amidst lack of support from some of the founders of Infosys.
UB Pravin Rao, who will step down as the interim CEO and managing director, will continue as chief operating officer (COO) and director of the Bangalore-based company. The fact that Infosys did not find an internal person to head the company as CEO indicates that Infosys could not grow its senior team members to take leadership positions.
Salil Parekh joined Capgemini in 2000 as a result of the acquisition of the consulting division of Ernst and Young and occupied various leadership positions in the Group.
“Salil has nearly three decades of global experience in the IT services industry. He has a strong track record of executing business turnarounds and managing very successful acquisitions,” said Nandan Nilekani, chairman of Infosys.
Salil Parekh was a member of the Group Executive Board at Capgemini. Salil Parekh has Master of Engineering degrees in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
