Infotech Lead Asia: The Weather Company International has helped Huafeng complete installation of DataCloud, The Weather Company’s proprietary big data management solution for national meteorological agencies.
This will make the People’s Republic of China (PRC) a global leader in the integration of DataCloud. Chinese Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Huafeng, a division of CMA, will use DataCloud to power weather content sent to its clients across television, online, mobile and automotive products.
CMA and Huafeng produce all weather broadcasts for China Central Television (CCTV) and other consumer and enterprise clients, so The Weather Company International will drive global forecast television presentations seen throughout the PRC.
The DataCloud solution presents the country’s weather data sets into a simplified format for better weather visualization, forecasting, warning dissemination and public communication through television or digital platforms.
Huafeng has utilized software solutions from Weather Central since 2006. Weather Central was acquired in 2012 and is now a subsidiary within The Weather Company. It produces more than 70 weather presentations a day.
Huafeng’s 24×7 weather channel, China Weather TV is powered by The Weather Company International’s broadcast solutions. The addition of DataCloud will incorporate The Weather Company’s unique data and forecast model. It will bring Huafeng to fully redundant and operational levels. The system allows for a more accurate, automated method of producing weather forecasts to help improve dissemination of information and potentially save lives.
The Weather Company International caters to more than 35 clients throughout the PRC that include national (Huafeng), provincial and city level CMA offices. The company produces hundreds of weather presentations daily which are seen throughout China by more than 600 million viewers.
