Infotech Lead India: Quantum Corp, a provider of data protection and big data management solutions, says DXidisk and Scalar tape solution is expected to save Serco Global Technology Delivery $2 million in storage costs over the next five years.
Serco, a provider of managed and outsourced business solutions, has already benefited by reduced disk capacity needs by up to 96 percent and decreased restore times by a factor of five.
Serco says its technology business has grown from a 50-terabyte (TB) environment into an 800 TB infrastructure.
Serco expects to reach five petabytes within five years, and tapped Quantum for a flexible solution to protect the increasing volumes of data while reducing excessive management costs.
Serco will utilize Quantum’s tiered storage solutions that integrate disk and tape technologies since it offers flexible deduplication and enterprise-wide backup and disaster recovery, including service, support and advanced management tools.
Serco runs CommVault backup software and entrusts Quantum Vision management software to manage its disk and tape environment from a single console. The IT team can even use mobile devices to track Vision data.
Serco now has eight Quantum DXi8500 disk-based backup systems and two Scalar i500 tape libraries to provide flexible deduplication, a scalable architecture, and enterprise-wide backup and disaster recovery for their clients.
Meanwhile, in February 2013 Quantum launched its new DXi6800 Series deduplication appliance which combines high performance, scalability and efficiency with unique “pay-as-you-grow” extensibility to deliver better overall value than the leading competitor.
