IBM taps Monitise to strengthen mobile money biz

Enterprise IT vendor IBM has tapped Monitise to strengthen its mobile money business.

As part of the deal, IBM will utilize Monitise resources to pursue mobile money opportunities.

While commercial opportunities initially will be targeted at financial institutions, the companies will also address the needs of mobile network operators and retailers requiring simple API connectivity to mobile payment and commerce functionality and content.

Teams from Monitise’s UK development and integration business including a number of contractors will be transferred into IBM that will deliver services back to Monitise.

The transfer involves UK employees representing over 20 percent of Monitise’s employee base.

The collaboration will increase Monitise’s ability to handle larger custom projects globally.

The resources will enhance IBM’s ability to deliver existing and future Monitise-based Mobile Money solutions to customers.
