Samsung Unveils Industry’s First Low-Power DDR5X DRAM Chip

Samsung revealed the development of the industry’s premier low-power double data rate 5X (LPDDR5X) DRAM chip, marking a significant leap in memory solutions tailored specifically for artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
Samsung LPDDR5X DRAMThe chip boasts support for unparalleled performance, with speeds reaching up to 10.7 gigabits-per-second (Gbps). This advancement signifies a remarkable enhancement, surpassing its predecessor by over 25 percent in performance and boasting a capacity increase of more than 30 percent, according to Samsung.

The emergence of low-power, high-performance LPDDR chips is pivotal in the burgeoning market for on-device AI, where artificial intelligence algorithms operate directly on the device itself, reports Yonhap News Agency.

Samsung’s latest LPDDR5X products are the result of leveraging 12 nanometer-class process technology, enabling the creation of the smallest chip size among existing LPDDR variants. This achievement further solidifies Samsung’s technological dominance in the low-power DRAM sector.

Samsung announced plans for the mass production of LPDDR5X, slated to commence in the second half of the year. This rollout will follow verification procedures by providers of mobile application processors and mobile devices, ensuring seamless integration and performance compatibility.
