Salesforce’s AI bet, Agentforce, struggles to gain traction

CRM major Salesforce, which generated revenue of $37.9 billion (up 9 percent) in fiscal 2025, is feeling the pressure as it struggles to drive adoption for its AI product, Agentforce.

Despite the company’s broader AI business gaining traction — ending fiscal 2025 with $900 million in ARR, a 120 percent increase — Agentforce’s adoption appears to be progressing at a slower pace than expected.

Salesforce is targeting $40.5 billion to $40.9 billion revenue during the current fiscal 2026. The CRM major is aiming for $9.71 billion – $9.76 billion in the current-quarter against $10 billion it achieved in the fourth-quarter, indicating that AI is not gaining momentum for Salesforce.

Agentforce, launched 90 days ago, has attracted 3,000 paying customers, with notable names such as Equinox, OpenTable, and Jacuzzi leveraging the much-publicized AI tool to improve efficiency. The total number of customers for Agentforce has reached 5,000 at the end of Q4.

Salesforce highlights significant productivity gains, including OpenTable using Agentforce to handle 73 percent of restaurant web queries within three weeks, and Goodyear integrating it to streamline sales operations and technical support.

Yet, CEO Marc Russell Benioff’s remarks signal tempered expectations, acknowledging that the product is still in the early stages of adoption and will make only a “modest contribution” to revenue in fiscal 2026, with more meaningful growth anticipated in fiscal 2027.

While Salesforce closed over 400 deals exceeding $1 million in Q4 and saw its AI and Data Cloud offerings integrated into all top 10 wins, Agentforce’s role in driving new customer acquisitions appears limited.

Data Cloud, the backbone of Agentforce, doubled its transaction volume to 50 trillion, reflecting strong investment in Salesforce’s data infrastructure. However, this growth does not directly translate to an influx of new Agentforce customers at the scale Salesforce likely hoped for.

Despite a strong push for AI-driven workflows across its ecosystem, including Slack, Tableau, and MuleSoft, Agentforce’s traction remains a work in progress. While some early adopters report substantial ROI and efficiency gains, Salesforce faces the challenge of convincing a broader customer base to integrate AI-powered agents at scale.

In Q4, Salesforce closed more than 400 deals with over a million in deal size. All of the top 10 wins included data and AI.

Data Cloud is the fuel that powers Agentforce and customers are investing in it. Data Cloud surpassed 50 trillion, doubling year over year as customers increase their consumption and investment in data platform.
