OpenAI has added new search features to ChatGPT, positioning it to compete with Google, Microsoft’s Bing, and newer players like Perplexity.

The updated ChatGPT can now search the web for timely answers and relevant sources, integrating both third-party and partner-provided content. Initially available to ChatGPT Plus and Team users, the feature will expand to enterprise and educational customers soon, with broader access planned over the next few months.
The search functionality is a tailored version of GPT-4 and results from collaborations with several media publishers, including Conde Nast, Time magazine, and the Financial Times, among others. Publishers can opt into ChatGPT’s search, allowing users to receive updates and information from multiple established sources.
This move follows OpenAI’s earlier July release of a SearchGPT prototype and recent funding that may value the company at $157 billion, solidifying its standing among top private tech firms, Reuters news report said.
