In a landmark collaboration, global technology leader NVIDIA has joined forces with India’s prestigious Tata Group and conglomerate Reliance Industries to propel India into the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI) computing. This partnership aims to provide cutting-edge AI infrastructure and platforms to catalyze the development of AI solutions across various industries in India.

Tata Group’s AI Supercomputer with NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchip

Tata Group and NVIDIA are set to unveil an AI supercomputer, leveraging the groundbreaking NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip. This powerful computing system is poised to deliver unprecedented AI capabilities, empowering thousands of organizations, businesses, researchers, and startups in India. The deployment of GPU computing in data centers will enhance energy efficiency while addressing the surging demand for generative AI applications.

Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted to partner with Tata as they expand their cloud infrastructure service with NVIDIA AI supercomputing to support the exponential demand of generative AI startups and processing of large language models.”

Tata Communications and NVIDIA Building an AI Cloud

Tata Communications, in conjunction with NVIDIA, will develop an AI cloud in India, poised to serve as a critical infrastructure component for the next phase of computing. Leveraging Tata Communications’ robust global network, this AI cloud will facilitate high-speed data transfers, bringing the power of AI closer to enterprises across the nation.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a subsidiary of Tata Group, will harness the AI infrastructure to develop and process generative AI applications, fostering collaboration with customers to drive innovation with an AI-first approach. Furthermore, TCS plans to upskill its extensive workforce, leveraging the partnership’s resources.

Reliance Industries and NVIDIA – India’s Own Large Language Model

Reliance Industries, in collaboration with NVIDIA, has embarked on a mission to develop India’s own foundation large language model, tailored to the nation’s diverse languages. This model will be geared towards generative AI applications and serve as a remarkable asset for India’s burgeoning population.

The collaboration will witness the creation of AI infrastructure that surpasses the capabilities of India’s fastest supercomputer today, thanks to the utilization of the NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and the NVIDIA DGX Cloud, an AI supercomputing service in the cloud.

Reliance Industries’ telecom arm, Reliance Jio Infocomm, will harness this NVIDIA-powered AI infrastructure to usher in a new era of AI applications and services for its 450 million Jio customers. The infrastructure will also be made available to scientists, developers, and startups across India.

AI’s Potential Impact Across Industries

AI holds immense potential in transforming various sectors in India, from enabling rural farmers to access weather information and crop prices via cell phones to providing expert medical diagnosis in areas where immediate access to doctors is limited. Furthermore, AI can enhance cyclone prediction using decades of atmospheric data, helping vulnerable populations evacuate and find shelter.

Expanding AI-Ready Data Centers

To accommodate this monumental leap in AI infrastructure, AI-ready computing data centers are set to expand to 2,000 MW. The implementation and execution of this ambitious project will be overseen by Jio, leveraging its expertise in mobile telephony, 5G spectrum, fiber networks, and more.

This collaboration between NVIDIA, Tata Group, and Reliance Industries signals a pivotal moment in India’s AI journey, promising to unlock unprecedented possibilities and accelerate innovation across industries and society as a whole.
