Meta Platforms announced on Monday the rollout of a major update to its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, introducing AI video capabilities and real-time language translation. These features were initially unveiled at Meta’s annual Connect conference in September.
The v11 software update, available for members of Meta’s Early Access Program, enhances the smart glasses’ functionality by enabling users to ask questions based on what the glasses see and receive immediate responses from Meta’s AI chatbot assistant.
A standout feature of the update is the real-time translation tool, supporting English, Spanish, French, and Italian. Users conversing in any of these languages will be able to hear translations in English via the glasses’ open-ear speakers or view transcripts on their smartphones.
In addition to language capabilities, Meta has integrated Shazam, the popular song identification app, for users in the U.S. and Canada. Other features introduced in September included setting reminders and scanning QR codes and phone numbers using voice commands.
