According to Javier Gil, LaLiga’s head of AI implementation and development, AI is deeply embedded in the football league’s DNA, shaping both its internal processes and its external engagement with fans and stakeholders, Reuters news report said.

AI’s presence in LaLiga is not a recent development but has been in play for years. Under the leadership of LaLiga president Javier Tebas, AI-driven predictive analysis and algorithm-based solutions were implemented early on. This technology is not just for improving game strategies or player transfers; it is also revolutionizing fan engagement and the entertainment industry.

One of the most significant applications of AI in LaLiga is data analytics. Each match generates over 3.5 million data points through a tracking camera system installed in stadiums. This data fuels club strategies and initiatives like “Beyond Stats,” a project in collaboration with Microsoft that integrates advanced analytics into live broadcasts. AI also automates real-time video content for digital platforms, enhancing media production and increasing competitiveness among LaLiga clubs in European competitions.

As AI technology evolves rapidly, even LaLiga’s experts cannot precisely predict its future applications. However, they recognize the need for continuous employee training to raise awareness and foster creativity. LaLiga is committed to staying at the forefront of AI advancements, ensuring that its workforce is equipped to adapt to ongoing technological changes.

Beyond Spain, LaLiga is extending its AI expertise globally. The league has collaborated with other federations, established a consultancy in Iraq, and maintains a long-standing presence in the Middle East and North Africa through its Dubai office. This international expansion underscores LaLiga’s goal of sharing knowledge and expertise with various sports organizations worldwide.

Several LaLiga clubs, including Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, and Deportivo Alaves, are leveraging AI-driven experiences to enhance fan engagement. Additionally, partnerships with Microsoft and Sportian help push the boundaries of AI applications in sports. LaLiga is also closely observing the U.S. sports industry, which it views as a benchmark for innovation and a valuable source of inspiration.

Ultimately, LaLiga sees knowledge-sharing as a crucial step toward continued growth and development in AI adoption. By fostering discussions with other sports organizations, LaLiga aims to remain a leader in AI-driven advancements in the sports and entertainment sectors.

LaLiga is one of the biggest football leagues in the world, comprising 20 teams in its top division, LaLiga EA Sports, and an additional 22 teams in its second division, LaLiga Hypermotion. With a global following in the millions, it boasts some of the most popular clubs, including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. The league generates billions in revenue through broadcasting rights, sponsorships, and merchandising, making it a financial powerhouse in the sports industry.

LaLiga has shut down DuckVision, a pirate streaming platform with over 200,000 users in Spain. The platform illegally broadcasted live sports, including LALIGA matches, using IPTV and Ace Stream. It promoted its services via Telegram and operated through a website directing users to download its Android app.

Cloudflare provided protection for the platform, drawing criticism for allegedly enabling illegal operations. DuckVision also offered pirated content from major sports networks like ESPN, DAZN, and Sky Sports. The website had nearly 70,000 unique users, while its Telegram channel had over 13,800 members, facilitating widespread distribution of illegal streams.
