During the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo, Gartner analysts presented the top 10 strategic predictions that foretell how GenAI will drive monumental changes in various sectors:

AI Productivity as a National Power Indicator (By 2027): AI productivity’s value will be recognized as a primary economic indicator of national power, with governments committing to AI and incorporating it into long-term national planning.

GenAI Modernizes Legacy Applications (By 2027): GenAI tools will explain legacy business applications and develop appropriate replacements, reducing modernization costs by 70 percent.

Enterprise Battle Against Malinformation (By 2028): Enterprises will allocate over $30 billion to combat malinformation, cannibalizing marketing and cybersecurity budgets due to the multifaceted threat it poses.

Expanded Role for CISOs (By 2027): 45 percent of chief information security officers (CISOs) will expand their remit beyond cybersecurity, adapting to increasing regulatory pressure and expanding attack surfaces.

Unionization Driven by GenAI (By 2028): The rate of unionization among knowledge workers will increase by 1,000 percent, spurred by the adoption of GenAI and the need for clear communication about AI’s role in job positions.

Digital Charisma Filters (By 2026): 30 percent of workers will use digital charisma filters to enhance social effectiveness in various situations, augmenting talent pool diversity for organizations.

Neurodivergent Talent Recruitment (By 2027): 25 percent of Fortune 500 companies will actively recruit neurodivergent talent, improving employee engagement, productivity, and innovation across the workforce.

Machine Customer Markets (Through 2026): Large companies will establish dedicated business units or sales channels to access fast-growing machine customer markets, reshaping key functions like supply chain and customer service.

Rise of Smart Robots (By 2028): There will be more smart robots than frontline workers in manufacturing, retail, and logistics, addressing labor shortages in these sectors.

Electricity Rationing as a Competitive Advantage (By 2026): Aging grid infrastructures will lead to monthly electricity rationing for 50 percent of G20 members, turning energy-aware operations into a competitive advantage or failure risk.
