Sky taps MobileIron to deliver media content via mobile devices

Sky, an entertainment provider, has tapped MobileIron to securely deliver media content to customers via mobile devices including smartphones and tablets.

Sky enlisted Qolcom to deliver a scalable MobileIron solution that would allow the company to securely manage 5,000 Apple iOS devices.

“We looked at several EMM solutions and after three months analysing MobileIron’s features we decided it was the right solution for our business,” said Amardeep Rai, authentication and file services manager of Sky.

MobileIron solution provided better device security, a superior user experience and simple administration. Sky also integrated the EMM solution with Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Active Sync, Certificate Services, and Kerberos Constrained Delegation.

The new MobileIron platform enabled Sky employees across IT, field engineering and sales to use corporate apps to streamline tasks, as well as to enhance file distribution and browsing, and ultimately deliver market-leading customer service.

Sky, an entertainment company with 21 million customers across Italy, Germany, Austria, the UK and Ireland, has annual revenues of over £11 billion. It is Europe’s leading investor in television content with a combined programming budget of over £4.6 billion.

Sky uses MobileIron AppConnect to containerise custom-developed apps, and allow apps to securely access corporate resources behind the firewall. Using this functionality, Sky’s developers built an app that connects to the company’s marketing portal, allowing sales agents to demonstrate the video appearing on Sky in the upcoming months.
